Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida, Inc., serves more than 10,000 girls, ages 5 - 17, in the following ten counties: Manatee, Hardee, Highlands, Sarasota, DeSoto, Charlotte, Glades, Lee, Hendry, and Collier. ![]() In response to the girls' voices, Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida, Inc. is proud to offer fitness programs like kickboxing, yoga, and line dancing, and adventure programs like low ropes courses, scuba diving, and deep sea fishing. Girls can actively explore future career options like photography, environmental studies, technology and many more. The Girl Scout program is designed to expand girls' minds to future career or leadership possibilities. In our continuing effort to serve every girl, everywhere, Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida, Inc. strives to give every girl the opportunity to be a Girl Scout. In addition to serving girls in traditional troop settings, we reach out to girls in every economic situation and geographic location within the council through our outreach initiative. We have two locations through which we serve our members. The Searcy S. Koen Regional Girl Scout Campus is located in Sarasota and includes the Lorraine G. Gunn Council Headquarters and the Gulfcoast Event and Conference Center. This facility provides service to the entire council and contains a fully functioning Girl Scout shop. Our council service center is located in the Gateway Community in Fort Myers. This facility provides direct service to the southern members of the council and also has a fully functioning Girl Scout shop.
Founder Juliette Gordon Low organized the first group of Girl Scouts on March 12, 1912, in Savannah, Georgia. Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) was chartered by the United States Congress on March 16, 1950. Through membership in the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, GSUSA is part of a worldwide family of ten million girls and adults in more than 140 countries. ![]() Service Center in Fort Myers Girl Scouting has existed on the Gulf Coast of Florida since 1925. For more than 45 years, Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida, Inc. has been a driving force in the lives of thousands of girls. As the preeminent organization dedicated solely to girls, we are proud to offer an accepting and nurturing environment where girls ages 5-17 build the character and skills needed for success in the real world. A driving force in their development, our council reaches out to girls of all races, ethnicities, and socioeconomic backgrounds. We offer them the kinds of enriching, educational experiences that they'll remember as they grow and become tomorrow's leaders. Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida, Inc. received the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification by the U.S. Green Building Council for its two facilities on the Searcy S. Koen Regional Girl Scout Campus in Sarasota. In addition, the council has received several community beautification awards for its campus landscaping. The Department of Forestry and Southwest Florida Water Management District have also been engaged in collaborative projects such as the removal of invasive species and the replanting of native species on Girl Scout properties. These environmental accomplishments support the council's overall goal to teach girls how to become stewards of the land. Girls are encouraged to participate in a variety of educational, environmental opportunities and programs offered in Girl Scouting to provide them with a better understanding of the importance to care for the environment. |
