Join brand new and seasoned volunteers for all the hottest topics you need to know about to have a successful troop. Hear from others about their experience and share ideas of your own. These calls are a great way to network other volunteers. Calls take place at 10am and 7 pm. Click the Link to register for the calls. Learn to use the equipment properly to cook in the CAmp Honi Hanta kitchen. We will go over group menu planning, equipment use and cleaning. This course is required to use the kitchen at Camp Honi Hanta. ![]()
Leadership EssentialsDesigned to prepare volunteers to effectively facilitate the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE). This includes: understanding the three keys of Discover, Connect, and Take Action; learning how to use resources to support the delivery of the GSLE; understanding how to facilitate activities so they are girl-led, cooperative and learn-by-doing; acquiring the ability to convey the value of being purposeful in ones leadership. Transitioning to the New Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE)Designed for existing leaders/advisors and co-leaders to connect current resources with the new GSLE model. It will also offer the opportunity to explore the new resources for their appropriate grade level. Correspondence Age Level Training (home study books)Home study ‘Age Level Training’ modules will continue to be available to download as a supplemental resource for volunteers working with existing age level resource books. Leadership Essentials and Transitioning to the New Girl Scout Leadership Experience are the required learning modules for new and existing volunteers working with girls. Troop Adventures (day course)Troop Adventures is required for activities conducted away from the meeting place, such as a day hike, visit to a museum/park or a simple overnight/hotel stay. Topics include girl planning, activity progression in the out-of-doors, charcoal cooking, forms/paperwork, tips for working with girls and adults, and safety procedures. Fun activities will be included to ensure that all troop outings are a success. Does not expire. Prerequisite for Troop Camp. Troop Camp (overnight course)All troops wishing to do overnight troop camping must be accompanied by someone 18 years of age or older who has taken Troop Camp. Emphasis of this course is on safety, minimal impact camping techniques, care of campsites and equipment, program ideas, and how to help girls plan a quality camping experience. You will be sleeping in cabins for Troop Camp. Good for three (3) years. Prerequisite: Troop Adventures. (Recertify Troop Camp through the following methods: Troop Camp course, Troop Camp Recertification course, Troop Camp Recertification Project, or Advanced Troop Camp.) Troop Camp Recertification (day course)For those recertifying ONLY! Training will consist of hands-on activities and any updates as well as an interactive question and answer overview. Troop Camp Project (home study)Available on approval to volunteers who are currently Troop Camp certified transferring from other councils and those needing to recertify who cannot attend a scheduled course. (Contact the Outdoor Program Department for information.) Advanced Troop Camp (overnight course)For troops wishing to learn more advanced camping skills. This is a tent camping opportunity that introduces primitive camping skills, outdoor cooking methods, and emphasizes no-impact camping. Prerequisite: Troop Camp. Backpacking (overnight course)Offers trail packing and advanced primitive camping skills. The council furnishes the backpacks, tents, stoves, and cookware needed for this course. Pack light for this one. Prerequisite: Advanced Troop Camp. CPR and First AidA Girl Scout “first-aider” is an adult who has taken Girl Scout council-approved, First Aid and CPR training. Check Safety-Wise for acceptable First Aid and CPR courses and specifications regarding the need of a “first-aider” for any activity. CanoeLearn canoe basics including strokes, maneuvering, equipment, and safety techniques to take your troop canoeing. KayakExperience the thrill of paddling sit-upon kayaks and learn how to maneuver them in calm Florida waters. ArcheryPractice shooting and learn about proper equipment, how to set up a range as well as how to teach your girls to shoot. Event CookingTo use the commercial kitchen at Camp Honi Hanta for neighborhood and council events. LifeguardA lifeguard is required for home pools as well as public pools. You must be a strong swimmer. Course includes distance and endurance segments. Facilitating Adult Learning (Formerly Train-The-Trainer)Understand how adults learn and practice facilitation techniques as well as the basics of planning, designing, delivering and evaluating learning opportunities for adults. Hands-on activities and instructional guide provided. Participants will be asked to complete a precourse assignment to enable the facilitation team to best meet everyone’s needs. |
