Outdoor Skills Weekend

As the Girl Scout Processes of girl led, experiential learning, and cooperative learning are embraced for girls, they are being applied to volunteer training as well. Last year Troop Camp with Your Girls; where girls and volunteers learned the outdoor skills needed to camp effectively in partnership; was very successful in not only preparing girls and volunteers to camp, but demonstrating the Girl Scout processes in action. Due to its success, Troop Camp has been replaced with Outdoor Skills, a rebranded version of Troop Camp with Your Girls. This new training allows you to bring your girls for a fun, easy weekend of learning and is replacing Troop Camp. This training is required for all volunteers serving as the certified adult volunteer for overnight troop camping. Course includes camping procedures, outdoor cooking, and safety. One adult with each troop must have completed troop adventures training. Up to two adults per troop will be allowed to participate in the training. How it works: All meals and activities will be provided by trained volunteers and staff. Girls and adults, being trained, will participate in activities together and separately. Troops are allowed to bring girls along with the number of adults required by safety activity checkpoints. At least one adult with your troop should be designated to spend the entire weekend with the girls and will not complete the training. When the girls are not participating along with the adults being trained, they and their accompanying adult(s) will be engaged in fun camp activities led by trained volunteers and staff.
