Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida Inc. received the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification by the U.S. Green Building Council for its two facilities on the Searcy S. Koen Regional Girl Scout Campus in Sarasota.

In addition, the council has received several community beautification awards for its campus landscaping. The Department of Forestry and Southwest Florida Water Management District have also been engaged in collaborative projects such as the removal of invasive species and the replanting of native species on Girl Scout properties.

These environmental accomplishments support the council's overall goal to teach girls how to become stewards of the land. Girls are encouraged to participate in a variety of educational, environmental opportunities and programs offered in Girl Scouting to provide them with a better understanding of the need to care for the environment.

Our council properties provide diverse opportunities and outdoor experiences for girls instilling in them an appreciation and respect for the environment.

Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida, Inc. offers two camp locations. Each camp has a full-time ranger on duty. All camp facilities include toilets and showers. Facilities for the disabled are available at Camp Honi Hanta. Each camp has an all-terrain wheelchair on site.

Mandatory camp attire is CLOSED-TOE AND HEELED SHOES with socks. Tank tops and sleeveless shirts can be worn when doing appropriate activities in an inside setting or in the rainforest. For outdoor activities such as hiking, canoeing, or evening activities where there is a high risk of sun exposure or bugs, we encourage wearing T-shirts. All visitors, as well as participants who are attending or visiting our camps, must be dressed in camp attire! Thank you.
