Join us for a hands-on service project and workshop focused on combating invasive plants in our local environment! Led by experts from Oyster River Ecology, Inc., this event is designed to educate and empower girls in understanding and managing invasive species. Participation will earn girls the Eco Trekker (Cadette), Eco Explorer (Senior), and Eco Advocate (Ambassador) badges.
Girls will dive into the critical issue of invasive plants and their impact on native ecosystems by learning essential skills in identifying, removing, and preventing the spread of invasive species. They will gain deeper insights into local ecology and the interconnectedness between native flora, fauna, and invasive species and understand the broader implications of invasive plants on habitats and wildlife.
Then, girls will equip themselves with the necessary tools to safely and effectively remove invasive plants. Under expert supervision, participants will practice proper cutting and disposal methods and discover strategies to prevent the re-growth and spread of invasive plants. Participants will learn about habitat restoration techniques and ongoing stewardship efforts.
Damon Moore of Oyster River Ecology, Inc. will lead the program, sharing his expertise and passion for environmental conservation.
