Put on your hard hat and safety vest and join the team of female professionals at Ajax Paving, as they host this generous Girl Scout Patch Program for girls in grades 6-12. "From Rocks to Roads" at their asphalt plant in Punta Gorda, FL.

The program kicks off with a tour of the asphalt plant by trained staff, which will be fully operational on the day of the tour. Girls will visit the tech lab and meet with the Quality Control Lab Tech.  They will learn how asphalt is made and participate in an asphalt simulation activity making and eating "asphalt cookies" made of chocolate, walnuts, coconuts, and oats.  After learning how to make asphalt, girls will walk across the street and meet with an engineer to learn the final steps of how rocks are turned into roads.

This patch program was created by a team of female professionals at Ajax Paving who will lead a panel activity to introduce girls to a variety of careers they can pursue in the construction industry. The program ends with a Q & A session.

The program includes water, an asphalt cookie snack, and a patch.

15 spots are reserved for adult Girl Scout volunteers at no cost, in exchange for chaperoning the program, guiding girls to and from each session, and monitoring safety during the sessions.

Participants must wear their Girl Scout vests, closed shoes, long pants and shirts with sleeves (no tank tops, but short sleeves are permitted), as part of the plant required attire.
