Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida is proud to be one of six Girl Scout Councils that serve more than 40,000 girls and 90,000 supportive volunteers, representing over 100,000 families across the state.
As a united force, we have come together as the Girl Scouts of Florida Association, a separate nonprofit organization dedicated to advocating not only on behalf of Girl Scouts, but all of Florida’s girls and commissioned a study to better understand the opportunities and obstacles girls are facing.
The resultant report is a deep dive into the challenges and successes confronted by the girls in our state and serves as a call to action to reinforce the critical need for safe, nurturing environments designed to support girls’ growth.
There has never been an in-depth data driven approach done in Florida to disaggregate this information by gender. The findings have been peer reviewed by 11 academic partners from colleges and universities across the state.
Together, we appreciate the opportunity to share the key findings from this commissioned State of the Florida Girl Report—a first-of-its-kind study that highlights the well-being of girls in our state across four key areas:
- Physical health
- Academic performance
- Emotional wellness
- Social well-being
Our hope is that we can unite together, creating a network of relationships with organizations to spread the word and make a difference in the lives of girls. We need you—leaders, educators, community members—to join us in ensuring every girl in Florida has the opportunity to reach her full potential. If you know an organization, school, or leader who would benefit from this information, please contact us, we are more than happy to speak with them.
