This recertification tests leader's skills knowledge specific to outdoor camping adventures, including outdoor cooking techniques, fire building and safety, dish washing procedures, Leave No Trace, knot tying, camp safety, and site orientation. During this course participants will review GSUSA Safety Activity Checkpoints, council property policies, and proper closing and cleaning procedures and pass an online exam prior to attending the in-person skills assessment session. The online module and exam can be completed at your own pace and takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. The in-person session will last approximately 4 hours.
The Outdoor Camp Skills Recertification must be completed prior to the expiration of the original Outdoor Camp Skills Training certification.
This class is taught in a blended learning format. The online portion must be completed by 12:00 pm the Friday prior to the in-person training. You will receive an email confirmation and access to the online portion of the course via gsLearn after registration closes.
Participants must complete both components, the online portion, and attend the entire in-person session, plus pass a skills assessment to complete the recertification. Upon successful completion of the course, each participant will receive a certificate of completion valid for three years. This certificate qualifies the participant to continue leading girls in overnight outdoor camping activities.
This course requires a minimum of 6 participants. The cost is $30 per person and includes all food and equipment required for cooking. Participants must provide their own mess kit, water bottle and flashlight.
