World Thinking Day is a special Girl Scout celebration that encourages girls to explore global cultures, build empathy, and recognize the importance of international friendship. This program invites troops to learn about the diverse traditions, customs, and experiences of people from around the world-starting right within their own communities.

During this program, troops will connect with many different cultures by sharing the traditions, music, food, and history of the country of their choosing, helping girls understand and appreciate the richness of global diversity.

Through this engaging cultural exchange, Girl Scouts build leadership skills, kindness, and cultural awareness-core values of the Girl Scout movement. By participating in World Thinking Day, troops honor the global sisterhood of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts while learning how people around the world live, celebrate, and connect.

This event is open to all GSGCF troops.

Each participating group or individual chooses the country they will represent via Signup Genius on a first-come, first-served basis:

Each participating group or individual will research and present information about a chosen country through displays, traditional food, costumes, or short, interactive lessons.

Exhibitions may include:

  • A tablecloth
  • A fact board
  • Items representing the country, such as coins, clothing, photographs, or other artifacts that convey its culture and character.
  • A hands-on activity, craft, or game inspired by the country that gives participants a fun way to explore its culture. E.g. Japanese paper folding (origami), Egyptian sand art, etc.
  • S.W.A.P.S. to hand out representing your country
  • A stamp or sticker representing your country for a passport.
  • A short song or dance relating to your country's history or culture. E.g. England did "London Bridge is Falling Down"
  • Food samples representing your country. E.g. Chinese fortune cookies, Italian cannoli's, etc.
  • Props that showcase unique historical or geographic landmarks belonging to your country. E.g. a replica of Big Ben in England, a diorama of Machu Picchu in Peru, a miniature version of the Taj Mahal in India, etc.
  • Troops may wear traditional costumes or dress in the fashion of the country.
  • We recommend you assign responsibilities so that half the group presents while the other half tours the exhibits, then switch so everyone gets a turn.
