The annual Young Women of Distinction awards ceremony (YWOD), usually held in May, was postponed due to COVID-19. As we thoughtfully move toward resuming normal operations, we must continue to take precautionary measures and adhere to limitations regarding large gatherings.
With this in mind and after careful consideration, our YWOD event committee, consisting of girls, volunteers, and staff, has decided to move forward with a virtual video event to celebrate girls receiving the Girl Scout Silver and Bronze Awards, Journey Summit, Religious Recognitions, and 10-year Pins, along with graduating Girl Scouts and Cookie Entrepreneurs.
Gold Award Girl Scouts and GSGCF scholarship recipients will be recognized during a virtual event on July 12.
We understand the joy and inspiration experienced through the opportunity to gather and celebrate achievements, and recognize this is disappointing to many. However, as we encourage girls to act responsibly, we must lead by example and know that ultimately this is the right decision.
As Girl Scouts, we know how important it is to adapt and make the best of any situation. We appreciate your patience and understanding, and look forward to celebrating with you, in whatever form that may take.
